Order processing and shipping
Publishers Storage and Shipping Corp (PSSC) can provide publishers with two different services.
- PSSC acts as the extension of the publishers operation, basically their warehouse and shipping facility. Publishers that use this service have their own customer service operation, they handle everything from phone calls to invoice creation to payment processing. The order data is passed on to PSSC in daily batches and PSSC picks, packs and ships. PSSC provides daily shipping confirmation files to the publisher to be introduced back into their data base, so they can “complete” the order circle. PSSC is able to supply Advance Shipping Notifications (ASN) to the major vendors that are demanding it (Amazon, Baker & Taylor, Ingram, and Barnes & Noble Dist Centers.).
- PSSC also offers a more extensive service to publishers where in addition to the warehousing of books and shipping of orders, customer services are also provided. This is referred to as the “full service” option. It includes a call center, invoicing, payment posting, credit card processing, web shopping cart links, sales reporting, etc.. PSSC would be the primary contact point for the publishers customers when they are placing orders. PSSC can execute returns credit processing, administer discounts and other policies. This service is generally billed on a percentage of gross sales handled by PSSC. This service is priced assuming a certain minimum level of service billings is reached on a monthly basis. Publishers doing less than $20,000 in yearly gross sales billings may not find this service economical.
